Over the past two years, the Charter Project Africa, led by the European Centre for  Development Policy Management (ECDPM), has been actively involved in various  research and advocacy initiatives aimed at amplifying citizens' voices and fostering  collaboration between citizens, civic initiatives, and policymakers across Africa.

In 2022, our focus was on engaging civil society and representatives of African Union  (AU) organs on governance issues in Africa. This included publishing a guide to the  African Charter on Democracy, Elections, and Governance (ACDEG) in English and  French, aimed at helping civil society understand the Charter's significance.  Additionally, ECDPM organised an online event commemorating the Charter's 15th  anniversary, which was attended by AU officials. Research on the role of digital  technologies in women-led political movements in Africa was also conducted and  presented at the African Women in Media Conference in Fes, Morocco. ECDPM's  analysis of the risks of digitalisation without regulation in Africa received positive  feedback and formed the basis for presentations at various conferences and  webinars.

In 2023, ECDPM collaborated with other members of the Charter Project Africa  consortium to produce a series of studies focusing on civil society engagement with  Regional Economic Communities (RECs). Additionally, ECDPM conducted a series of  webinars, in-person workshops, and training sessions with civil society organisations  to address issues related to ACDEG values, digital tools, and civil society engagement  with regional and continental governance frameworks. Through these ongoing efforts,  the Charter Project Africa has created knowledge and learning platforms that  promote democratic governance principles and citizen participation in Africa.
