The Charter Project Africa met the Pan-African Parliament’s Committee on Cooperation, International Relations, and Conflict Resolution at a roundtable discussion that focused on the implementation of the AU’s shared values by member states and in particular, those enshrined in the ACDEG. The meeting took place on 29 August 2022 in Midrand, South Africa and was organised within the framework of the African Governance Architecture Support Project (AGA-SP). Present at the roundtable were the AGA-APSA Secretariat, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC), and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM). The Charter Project Africa took the opportunity to highlight the lessons learnt so far and offered insight on how civic technology can be used to elevate citizen engagement on the implementation of the ACDEG and related AU shared values. Among the key recommendations contained in the joint plan of action that was agreed upon at the meeting there is a commitment to accelerate the use and deployment of civic technology in advancing democratic governance principles and engaging citizens.
The Charter Project Africa will continue to work closely with the Pan-African Parliament and other African Governance Platform members to ensure that this objective is met.
