After a victory in the Charter Project Africa Hackathon held in Lagos on 11 February, 2023, ChatVE, a pioneering Nigerian team, was been handpicked by the Lagos State Government to demonstrate their cutting-edge AI tool in Morocco, as part of the Gitex Africa Digital Summit in Marrakech. The Gitex Africa Digital Summit is held under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, under the authority of the Moroccan Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, and hosted by Agence de Developpement du Digital Morocco (ADD).

ChatVE is an AI chatbot that can be seamlessly integrated into popular platforms like Slack and WhatsApp, acting as a virtual assistant to educate voters during elections. Within the Nigerian context, the chatbot was proffered as a solution to combat violent extremism in elections and support watchdogs in ensuring a secure and democratic electoral process.

Through an AI virtual assistant, the tool provides quick and conversational information to users, offering real-time fact-checking of claims using the Google Cloud Vision API.

One of the key functionalities of ChatVE is to handle users' inquiries and guide them in locating their polling units using their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) number or ward address, providing directions via maps.

In the future, the tool will leverage insights from image analysis, including image labelling, face and landmark detection, optical character recognition (OCR), and explicit content tagging, in order to validate claims related to electoral processes.

The Lagos State Government's selection of Chat VE to showcase their tool in Morocco at the Gitex Africa Digital Summit is a testament to the innovative potential of their AI solution, and its promise for advancing voter education and strengthening democratic processes across the continent.
